Matthew Chavarria is a visual artist whose collecion of work explores basic elements, shapes and forms. With a design aesthetic influenced by urban space and architectural landscapes, he uses a wide range of materials and mediums to create abstract paintings.
The premise of his work revolves around the quest for a language / dialogue corresponding to the following facters: the exploration of our physical environment, the interactions within that space we inhabit, as well as its ability to transcend beyond the present time, and the narrative history of these moments of contact. There is no commitment to approaches, perspectives, or technique other then the absence of definite order. Using accident and consequence to capture effect, the artist’s practice produces a depiction of public space materialized by way of abstraction, with an emphasis on contemporary composition and intuitive memory. The works rely on the viewer to engage in discourse and explore interpretations of environmental scenes and settings from which a personal connection was made. The accumulated language of several events – markings, layering, development – assists to further mirror the process of daily interaction and investigation within one’s given environment. Furthermore, these visual references are derived from a constant, yet fleeting, dialogue involving self, time and space.
